Soham killer Ian Huntley dies after attack in maximum security prison | News

Former school caretaker Ian Huntley, who killed two 10-year-old schoolgirls in Soham, died in hospital on Saturday, March 7, following the attack in a maximum security prison.

Huntley, who murdered Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, was on life support in hospital after being hit repeatedly in the head by a prisoner with a metal bar at HMP Frankland in Durham on February 26.

Life support was turned off at lunchtime on Friday, March 6, after brain tests showed he was in a vegetative state. He was confirmed dead on Saturday.

It was reported that the attack was carried out by murderer and rapist Anthony Russell (43). Police investigation into the incident continues.

The Justice Department said Huntley’s crime “remains one of the most shocking and devastating cases in our nation’s history, and our thoughts are with his families.”
