‘This is a moment of grave peril’

UN Humanitarian Affairs Leader Tom Fletcher said the world faced a “very serious danger” and warned that the conflict in the Middle East was having a “tremendous impact” on civilians.

He also warned of “secondary effects” further afield, expressing concern about rising extremism and polarization in the region and beyond.

“We have to step back from the brink now,” he told the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg.
