Israeli strike kills two Palestinians in a car in Gaza

An Israeli airstrike killed at least two Palestinians in Gaza City, local health officials said, making it the deadliest incident in Gaza since Israel and the United States launched a war against Iran a week ago.

The two men were traveling in a car near Al-Azhar University in western Gaza on Sunday, medics said. Their identities were not immediately known. Health officials stated that many people in the region were injured in the attack.

Although Israeli forces killed scores of Palestinians last week, such attacks have decreased since the beginning of the US-Israeli campaign against Iran.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Sunday’s attack.

Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on a US-brokered ceasefire in Gaza last October, but violence continues almost daily. Both sides blamed the other for violations of the ceasefire agreement.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health said at least 640 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since October. Israel says four soldiers were killed by militants in Gaza during the same period.

Gaza has been devastated by more than two years of Israeli attacks, according to local health officials; More than 72,000 Palestinians were killed and much of the area was left in ruins, according to local health authorities.

The war was sparked by Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, according to Israeli records; here militants killed 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostage.
