‘Killjoy’ Greens want to abolish zoos and force every dog owner to have a licence

The Greens want to abolish all zoos and force every dog owner to have a licence; a move that critics described as a ‘seedy’ move.

The party wants to introduce more red tape for owners of Britain’s 13.5 million dogs and ensure parks return their animals to the wild, according to policy documents on the party’s website.

A ‘two-tier’ licensing system will be introduced for those who breed dogs and those who do not.

Dog licenses were abolished in 1987 and since 2016 they must all be microchipped.

But in Ireland, where the licensing policy still applies, owners either pay £120 for life or £17 annually.

Their policy document states: ‘The Green Party opposes the wholesale breeding, manipulation and destruction of animals chosen as companions of the human race.

‘We will implement measures to regulate the care and conditions of such animals, including a two-tier dog licensing system.’ [breeding and non-breeding]licensing of all animal breeders and dog owners.’

In addition to these regulations, party leader Zack Polanski also wants zoos to be abolished. Despite being a great source of entertainment for young children, the Greens want parks to be closed if they do not prioritize preparing animals for release into the wild.

Licenses will also be given to zoos that rescue injured wild animals. Shadow Environment Secretary Victoria Atkins told The Sun on Sunday: ‘The Greens are barking mad because they want to make dog owners very expensive and close the UK’s highly regarded zoos.

‘Zoos inspire millions of children about wildlife and do vital conservation work for endangered species.

‘Green spoilsport want to throw all this away while making dog ownership unaffordable. ‘This is politics’ dog’s dinner.’

The Left party, backed by 21 per cent of voters and which according to recent polls only supports Reform, also wants to ban horse and greyhound racing.

His other policies include legalizing the possession of drugs such as heroin and crack cocaine, reversing Brexit and giving illegal immigrants a home and access to the NHS.

Instead of repairing England’s pothole-ravaged roads, the party will spend £2.5bn a year on new cycleways and footpaths built using only ‘sustainable materials’.

A spokesman for the Green Party said: ‘We are a nation of animal lovers. Our policies on the cost of living, the NHS, public services and the environment are becoming increasingly popular with voters.

‘We are confident that our policies to improve animal welfare will be equally popular.’
