In what has already been an extremely difficult few months for the monarchy, today will be another blow for King Charles. Over the past weeks and months the monarch has had to deal with what probably feels like challenge after challenge, almost all of it involving her brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Not only did he have to deal with Andrew’s appearance in the Epstein files, he also had to confront his disgraced brother’s arrest on suspicion of abuse of public office. While Andrew has been released pending investigation, the arrest has dominated headlines for weeks and despite his repeated denials of wrongdoing, his scandals are unlikely to leave the minds of the British public any time soon.

The King, who was certainly angry with his brother, encountered difficulties in this regard while trying to continue the duty he was born to do. This must be difficult in itself. But while the monarch appears to have a “keep calm and carry on” motto, it may be hard to accept the latest blow to the monarchy today.
