Retired four-star General David Petraeus calls for immediate sanctions against Russia following reports that Moscow provided intelligence support to Iran; This support, he says, could explain the accuracy of Iran’s missile and drone strikes.
“[President Trump] He should ask Congress to pass the sanctions bill in the Senate…” Petraeus told “Sunday Briefing.”
“[Sen. Lindsey Graham] More than 90 of 100 senators support him. This would be a very strong signal to Russia. “This will complement what the EU is doing, which is very impressive in that respect, and I think it’s been a long time since Russia has been sanctioned, especially since Russia is providing intelligence,” he added.

The general’s remarks came after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program on Sunday that the military partnership between Iran and Russia was not a “secret” in the past and that such a partnership “still exists and will continue in the future.”

Araghchi’s appearance followed reports that Russia was providing intelligence to Iran to help it target US military assets.
Asked about the reports, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters: “It makes no difference in terms of military operations in Iran because we are completely destroying them.”

Petraeus said Iran does not have the type of intelligence necessary to precisely target U.S. assets on its own and that Russian intervention would account for “some of the accuracy of the missiles and drone strikes.”
