Burke details asylum for Iranian soccer players in parliament; Coalition attacks Labor on fuel security
The Coalition has once again raised questions about fuel security in Australia, giving an early signal of its question time strategy today.
Energy spokesman Dan Tehan referred the question to Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen. The National Petroleum Materials Emergency Committee met three times last week to make sure the government was aware of the situation, Bowen said.
Bowen said the sudden increase in demand put pressure on the supply chain, but the oil arrived in Australia as planned.
He criticized Queensland’s energy minister for suggesting Labor was overseeing a fuel security “disaster”.
“This is an international crisis, not an economic or political opportunity,” Bowen said.
As he began to answer the question, he was repeatedly heckled by Fisher MP Andrew Wallace, who was expelled from the House. House Speaker Milton Dick scolded Wallace, saying that as a former Speaker of the House he should have known better.
