Teenage Reform council leader faces no confidence vote

The Young Reform UK council leader faces a vote of no confidence after his rivals claimed he had brought the authority “into disrepute”.

George Finch, who became England’s youngest ever council leader when he was appointed to lead Warwickshire county council at the age of 19 last year, is facing attempts to unseat him.

Jonathan Chilvers, the council’s Green Party group leader, called for a vote on Mr Finch’s role next week after claiming he had “abused his leadership position”.

“Commander George Finch abused his position of leadership and brought Warwickshire into disrepute once again,” Mr Chilvers said. Independent.

“His constant attacks on staff, partner institutions and his constant use of his role as Leader to score cheap and disgusting political points are unacceptable.

“He has ignored the expressed will of the elected council on more than one occasion. He is violating the British values we all hold dear: fair play, the rule of law and basic decency.”

Reasons given for bringing the motion included Mr Finch’s allegations last year that police withheld information about the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Mr Chilvers added: “As Greens, we cannot allow our British democracy to be attacked and Warwickshire to be undermined. That is why we are introducing a motion to remove him as leader on March 17.”

Mr Finch told the BBC the motion was a “political stunt”.

“Those trying to remove me have not presented an alternative council plan and have failed to provide a credible response to replace the work already underway,” he said.

Citizens see what this is, it is not a serious alternative management.

“This is an anti-Reform bloc held together by opposition to the administration and the change that Warwickshire voted for.”

Independent Reform UK and Mr Finch have been contacted for comment.

Mr Finch became leader of the council after its previous leader, Rob Howard, left the post after 41 days following Reform’s success in last year’s local elections.

The teenager has faced a number of controversies since becoming leader; He called the sixth a “total joke” and said it only helped young people develop a “woke mentality”.

He was also at risk of facing contempt of court after speaking out at a press conference in London last August about the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl.

The youngest council leader in the country has alleged that details of the case were “covered up” after police charged two men, Ahmad Mulakhil and Mohammad Kabir, in connection with the crime.

Warwickshire Police’s chief constable later responded to Mr Finch’s allegations and made public the letter sent to the councillor.

The letter said the force “does not and will not cover up such crimes” and explained that it did not disclose immigration status at the point of charging in line with national guidelines.
