While the Middle East has been devastated by drones and missiles and a brutal conflict has raged on the edge of Europe for more than four years, one historian believes all signs indicate World War III has already begun. On February 28, a joint force of Israel and the United States launched an attack against the Islamic Republic of Iran, claiming that the regime planned to produce nuclear weapons.

In the 11-day war that has raged since then, Iran has launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel, as well as several countries in the Middle East and even as far as Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean. US President Donald TrumpHe said the war against Iran, which claims to have stopped at least eight wars since coming to power, was “pretty much complete”.

But respected historian Anthony Glees, Professor Emeritus at the University of Buckingham, said the nature of the conflict in the war against Iran had chilling repercussions in history, which could mean the planet was in the midst of a global conflict. He said the fact that Israel and America chose to go to war was a sign, which meant other nations might decide to go to war as well.

Prof Glees also believes the mentality of the leaders involved in the current conflicts is another sign, as is Trump’s “commitment” to the continuation of the conflicts.

‘Election war’

Prof Glees President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believed that “might makes right” and that both leaders had made the attack on Iran a “war of choice”. According to his theory, the actions of Israel and the United States are deliberate for their own purposes, just as Russian President Vladimir Putin deliberately invaded Ukraine for his own interests.

Prof Glees He told the Mirror: “Both world wars were wars of choice. So was the attack on Iran last Saturday.

“There is no evidence that Iran plans to attack the US – as we now see it cannot reach the US homeland despite US bases being within range of its missiles – there is no evidence that Iran plans to attack Israel, a nuclear power happy to fight tooth and nail.

“History shows that wars of choice can become globe-trotting world wars, as happened in 1914 and after 1939 (World War II, strictly speaking, became a world war only after the Japanese chose to attack Pearl Harbor and Hitler chose to declare war on America – this was the case, the US choosing not to go to war with either).

Prof Glees said many analysts would question the legality of the Israeli and US attack on Iran, asking whether it was a genuine “pre-emptive strike” (one that is considered legal if there is evidence of an imminent attack) or a “preemptive war”.

Mindset of responsible leaders

Most importantly, he notes, another sign is the mentality and mentality of the leaders of the nations leading the charge. “We are dealing here with what is deep inside the minds of those with great power who, by choosing the show of war, do not care about international law. Force is right, not law, and they use force,” he continued.

“Neither Trump nor Netanyahu wants a world war – nor does Iran – but what they can get is a world war. Why? Because the mind that starts a preferential war against one enemy can also start a preferential war against any enemy.

“If you choose to start a war, as Trump and Netanyahu have done, you will not only risk a much broader conflict (a situation that, in my view, is now unfolding before our eyes), but you will also embolden others who share your mentality.

“Furthermore, those who are attacked will strike back as long as they are not given nuclear weapons; the whole point of nuclear weapons is that they are completely destructive, including self-destruction, given the amount of nuclear weapons that nuclear nations have these days, so no one will start a nuclear war.

“This means that a world war is in play, which began as a series of conventional wars that gained momentum and involved nations beyond the original conflict.

“Other leaders, full of their own, with vile ambitions to seize lands belonging to others and see their chance, Putin in eastern and northern Europe, Xi in Taiwan, Kim Jong-un in Southeast Asia, are jackals slaving away when they see what Trump and Netanyahu are trying to achieve.”

commitment to violence

Prof Glees adds that the final sign is Trump’s determination to continue the violence when things could so easily be ended. “In short, if Trump comes to his senses, he will immediately declare victory and stop the war. He has this power. But it is much more likely that he has fallen into the trap of Netanyahu, who has long believed in forever wars – these wars are both his path to power and the means of preserving it – and unless the war is stopped, the conflicts will continue, with thousands dying now and tens of thousands later.”

“That’s why we must strengthen our arms industry as soon as possible and consider adding thousands of British people to our armed forces in whatever capacity.

“Starmer is the exact opposite of Trump. He is a cautious man who tries hard. Such people find it very difficult to deal with the megalomaniacs of this world. Yes, I believe Starmer was wrong to flounder over the weekend. As much as we hate the Ayatollah’s regime, he was right to say that the attack was unlawful and the UK could not support it, and as we were in Cyprus, unless we are attacked, our decision will stand and please remember Lindsay and Craig. Foreman, neither Trump nor He was trapped in an Iranian prison along with 300 thousand British people in the region, which Netanyahu never gave a second thought to.

“So there’s clearly a possibility that the war that started last Saturday could become a world war because it’s also a war of choice.”
