Portland man dies after skiing accident on Mt. Bachelor
PORTLAND, Oregon (KOIN) — The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of a 65-year-old Portland man who crashed while skiing on Mount Bachelor Monday afternoon.
The crash happened just after 2:15 p.m. at Wanoga Way Ski Trail on the east side of Mount Bachelor next to the Cloudchaser Lift, officials said.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the skier, identified as Nigel Young, had no pulse and was not breathing. Despite resuscitation efforts, Young was pronounced dead just before 3 p.m.
“Young was skiing with three friends who were in front of him and did not witness the accident. Young was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, but deputies believe his injuries were not permanent,” DCSO said.
The investigation continues.
