Cargo ship struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz: UK

UK Merchant Marine Operations reported that a fire broke out on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz after an unknown shell hit it. in question In an update Wednesday morning.

UKMTO said the attack forced the ship’s unidentified crew to evacuate. While authorities continue the investigation, ships are urged to transit with caution and report suspicious activity.

The incident occurred in the Strait of Hormuz, 11 nautical miles north of Oman. UKMTO said no environmental impact report was available.

Shipping traffic in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz has come to a near standstill since the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran on February 28. Iran retaliated by targeting ships trying to pass through the strait, where several incidents have been reported in recent days.

The waterway is a narrow sea corridor connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Roughly 20% of global oil and gas typically passes through here.
