‘God saved me’: Farooq Abdullah’s first reaction after assassination bid in Jammu

The attacker, identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, allegedly targeted the ruling National Conference chief Abdullah during the event in the Greater Kailash area on the outskirts of the city.

While the veteran leader was leaving the place, Abdullah narrowly escaped when the armed attacker opened fire from behind.
“I am fine and God saved me,” Abdullah told PTI on Thursday morning.
Describing that chilling moment, she said the attacker managed to get right behind her neck. “At the last minute, security personnel, including NSG, pressured him. I was immediately put in my car and taken away safely,” he added.
The attack on Z+ category protected Abdullah has triggered serious concerns about the security apparatus in the sensitive Union Territory. As per standard protocol for such high-profile individuals, the area had to be sanitized and strict access control implemented. While Abdullah senior declined to comment on the vulnerability, his son and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his concerns in a post on X.
“….A man with a loaded gun is known to be able to get into close range and fire. It was only the close protection team that deflected the shot and ensured that the assassination attempt failed,” he said.

He also added, “There are more questions than answers right now, including how someone could get so close to a former CM with Z+ NSG protection.” he said.
Following the incident, the chief minister reached Jammu and went directly to his father’s house.
Senior officials are currently reviewing the security of all central government wards in Jammu and Kashmir. Measures to further tighten protection are ongoing, including improving jammers used in convoys.
