India discussed safety of shipping and energy security with Iran, MEA says

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. In his recent meeting with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi, S Jaishankar discussed shipping security and India’s energy security during the ongoing Middle East war.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaishwal said, “External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and Iran’s Foreign Minister held three meetings in recent days. The last one discussed issues related to shipping safety and India’s energy security. Beyond this, it is too early for me to say anything.”

Jaishankar had his last meeting with Araghchi on March 10, at a time when concerns were growing about the effects of the West Asian crisis, especially energy supplies to India.

“Tonight, we had a detailed discussion with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi on the latest developments regarding the ongoing conflict. We agreed to stay in touch,” Jaishankar said in a post on X. he said.

EAM conveyed India’s deep concerns regarding Iran and developments in the region to Araghchi.
