Asda giving customers free item in 550 UK stores with ‘secret code phrase’ | UK | News

Asda is giving away free products to customers who say a ‘secret code phrase’ at its 550 stores in the UK this Saturday. As part of its Mother’s Day celebrations, the retailer is offering free flowers to customers who say the phrase “mother’s word” to a community champion colleague at all its supermarkets and stores on March 14. Those who say the secret code phrase will receive a bunch of daffodils completely free of charge until stocks last.

Asda said the offer was to give mums the excitement they deserve and pamper them ahead of the big day on Sunday. A fifth (18%) of UK mums put themselves last and often insist on “don’t worry about me” when it comes to gifts, while 17% want money not to be spent on gifts, according to a February 2026 survey for Asda through research and insights agency Perspectus Global.

Asda said the freebie was a small way of changing this and making sure every mum in the country feels appreciated on Mother’s Day.

A spokesperson for Asda said: “We know all too well that mums can often put themselves last and we’re here to change that this Mother’s Day.

“We’re celebrating mums up and down the country like Asda. Because although they always say ‘Don’t worry about me’, this time we definitely are.”

“We’re delivering fresh daffodils in 550 stores nationwide to make sure every mum feels appreciated. Pop into your local Asda, say ‘mum says’ and pick a bunch from us.”

The daffodil giveaway will be valid for one day only on Saturday 14 March at 550 Asda supermarkets and stores.

To receive the gift, customers simply say “mum’s word” to one of the Asda community staff and they will receive a bunch of daffodils.

Flowers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to 80 bunches per Asda store. Only one bunch will be given per person and customers will not need to shop at the supermarket to get free flowers.
