“Irate” Mom Arrested After Allegedly Throwing Gatorade in Middle School Principal’s Face

Florida mother arrested for allegedly throwing Gatorade in principal’s face during after school.

On March 10, Diliana Quintana-Avila was charged with battery on a school employee, disrupting an educational institution, and resisting arrest without violence.

According to the arrest report, the 40-year-old mother walked into Norland Middle School in Miami Gardens and allegedly threw the contents of a Gatorade bottle into Assistant Principal Tiffany Hayes’ face. Oxygen.com.

In his statement, Hayes told police that he was standing at his post around 4 p.m. during school break when he saw Quintana-Avila quickly walking toward him and the school entrance. Hayes said in the document that he walked up to Quintana-Avila and asked, “How can I help you? Parents are not allowed in the building after 3:20 p.m.”

According to Hayes, Quintana-Avila made a comment in Spanish and threw the Gatorade in his face. The employee said in the document that he raised his hands and told the mother to stop twice, but she became “combative” and entered the campus anyway.

Hayes testified that he tried to stop Quintana-Avila, who allegedly threw the drink at his face a second time.

A responding officer wrote in an affidavit that he tried to verbally de-escalate the situation, but Quintana-Avila “became increasingly angry” and refused to give up his driver’s license.

As Quintana-Avila was escorted to his patrol car, the officer wrote in his affidavit that he became “physically resistant.”

“Miami-Dade County Public Schools is aware of an isolated incident involving a parent and an administrator that occurred after school hours at Norland Middle School,” a district statement sent to Oxygen.com said. “Miami-Dade Schools Police quickly located and arrested the individual. This District takes the safety and well-being of our students and staff very seriously and is committed to providing a safe school environment for everyone.”

Quintana-Avila was transported to Turner Guilford Knight Prison and later released. Quintana-Avila’s lawyer did not respond to a request for comment Oxygen.com.

Quintana-Avila later appeared before Judge Mindy S. Glazer. NBC 6. It is not clear how he begged.

According to the press, Judge Glazer had harsh words for the mother: “I’m not ordering you to stay away from Norland Middle School, I’m asking you to act like an adult and listen when people tell you you can’t go to school or you have to show ID.”
