RINL in Talks With Centre Over LPG Supply Continuity

Visakhapatnam: Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), the corporate body of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, is in consultation with the Central government to ensure continuity of LPG supply. The steel plant needs around 13 tonnes of LPG per day and the existing stock of 130 tonnes will last for another 10 days, an official said on Friday.

Senior union leader Ayodhya Ramu said production should not be interrupted at a time when the plant has started making operational profits. He said RINL recorded a profit of ₹64 crore in January and ₹34 crore in February this year and is expected to post a profit of around ₹150 crore in March.

He said the company has already paid ₹300 crore for LPG supply and suggested that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu should take the initiative to talk to the Central government to ensure smooth and uninterrupted LPG supply.

LPG is considered an ideal fuel for preheating furnaces due to its high calorific value, low carbon content, and low sulfur and ash content. These features allow LPG to provide even and precise heating, reduce fuel consumption, reduce emissions and minimize maintenance costs. LPG also reduces the risk of calcification and decarburization, which can affect the quality and strength of steel products.
