Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) alleged that Speaker G. Prasad Kumar, in his decision on disqualification petitions filed against 10 MLAs who transferred their loyalty from BRS to Congress, insulted the national flag by stating that the scarf they wore on their shoulders was the national flag, not the Congress scarf.
Addressing a press conference, former MP B. Vinod Kumar said on the Speaker’s disqualification petitions against 10 MLAs that their actions did not comply with the provisions of the Prevention of Defection Act and based on its orders, the Super Court closed the case. However, the Apex Court had directed the Speaker’s office to submit copies of the Speaker’s order within 48 hours.
He said Mr. Nagender, who was elected as MLA in BRS B-Form, had contested the Lok Sabha election in Congress B-Form. It is now the duty of the Election Commission to clarify whether a person can contest on B-Forms of more than one party and whether the BRS can send a letter to the ECI in this regard. He reminded that several MLAs elected to the Samajwadi Party were disqualified in the past after joining the Bahujan Samaj Party.
