LPG Shortage Hits Hostels In Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The ongoing shortage of commercial LPG cylinders is creating serious challenges for many hostels and paying guest (PG) accommodation across the city, especially in major student clusters such as RTC X Roads, Ameerpet, Padmaraonagar, Kukatpally.
With cooking gas stocks full and ongoing tensions in West Asia, some hostel owners are struggling to prepare meals for the hundreds of students who depend on them each day.
Hostel operators in the RTC Some hostels started bringing cooked meals from nearby dining halls because they could not operate their kitchens regularly.

He further added, “We have limited the food to just rice, sambar and a single curry (whichever is available in the dining hall). This mess is also not enough to meet the LPG shortage.”
Students staying in these hostels say the change has affected their routine. Aravind, a civil service aspirant from Warangal who is staying in another hostel, said, “I have my breakfast and dinner from a restaurant. Lunch is not bad but dinner is chapati and very little curry, so I prefer eating out.”
In Ameerpet, another major student hub known for its educational institutes, hostel owners have adopted even more unconventional methods to keep their kitchens running. After a small boys’ hostel ran out of cylinder stock, he began cooking in the backyard using firewood.
Priyanka, a student at the hostel, said, “The management did not come with cylinders and now they have started cooking with wood. But this is a big challenge for the management. I hope the situation gets a little better soon.”
Hostel owners across the city said the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders had hit them severely and urged authorities and gas distributors to ensure regular supply. They warned that the problem directly affects thousands of students.
