IndiGo will start charging fuel charges ranging from ₹425 to ₹2,300 on domestic and international flight tickets from March 14 amid the sharp rise in jet fuel prices due to the West Asia crisis. The decision will affect airfares and will come three days after Air India Group announced such fares.

The airline said on Friday, March 13, 2026, that the fuel charge for domestic flights and flights within the Indian subcontinent will be ₹425 and ₹900 for Middle East services.

The fuel fee will be 1,800 Indian rupees for flights to Southeast Asia, China and Africa, and 2,300 Indian rupees for European flights.

Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) accounts for approximately 40% of an airline’s operational costs.

The fuel surcharge announced by IndiGo for each domestic flight is higher than the ₹399 charged by Air India and Air India Express. Akasa Air and SpiceJet have not announced that fuel charges will be charged so far.

While announcing the introduction of fuel fees, the airline said that the measure was taken due to the serious increase in fuel prices following the ongoing geopolitical problems in West Asia.

“While a very significant adjustment in fares is required to offset the full impact of this increase in fuel price, IndiGo has consequently introduced a comparatively smaller amount as fuel charge keeping in mind the burden on customers,” the airline said.

The statement stated that starting from 00:01 on March 14, the fuel fee will be included in the general prices of all new bookings on IndiGo flights.

Regretting the inconvenience caused by fuel loading, IndiGo said it will continue to monitor the situation and make relevant adjustments where appropriate.

On March 10, Air India and Air India Express announced that they will impose a fuel surcharge of ₹399 on every domestic flight ticket from March 12 and will also increase the international booking fee due to the rapid rise in jet fuel prices. The revised rates came into effect from March 12.
