Haunting CCTV before mum, baby found dead at home in Logan, Queensland
CCTV footage captured a family taking an evening walk just hours before a Queensland mother and her one-year-old daughter were found dead in their home.
The bodies of Kate Paterson, 38, and her daughter, April, were found Thursday at a home on Belivah Avenue in Belivah.
Footage from a neighbour’s CCTV camera showed Ms Paterson holding the baby girl in her arms as she walked home on Wednesday evening.
It was reported that police had less than 12 hours to discover these tragic deaths.
Officers attended the property in Belivah after a 39-year-old man, thought to have run away from home after being hit by a car near a supermarket in Bannockburn, was found injured in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police said the man, believed to be the baby’s father, lived at the home with Ms Paterson and her daughters as a family unit.
The injured 39-year-old person was treated at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Their march turned into a devastating final memory as dozens of people attended a memorial service on Friday evening to mourn the loss of Ms Paterson and her daughter.
Flowers and stuffed toys were left around a tree, while scores of high school students joined in to pay their respects.
Windaroo resident Caroline Bower held a candle lighting and flower laying ceremony in the community in honor of Mrs Paterson and her daughter.
Before the vigil, Ms. Bower said a song would be played and requested that “everyone observe a moment of silence during the song as a sign of respect and reflection.”
“In times like these, our community stands together. By sharing our pain, supporting each other, and coming together, we can begin to find strength and healing,” he said. “We respect the participation of all members of society.”
Residents near the Belivah Rd property reported hearing screams at the same time.
Gloria Seal, who passed by on her way to work, said she saw the man lying on the ground covered in blood when emergency services intervened.
“It was so sad, it was awful to walk by,” Ms Seal told The Courier-Mail.
“I saw a black ute on the side of the road. There was an ambulance at that spot.
“He was covered in blood. I don’t know what happened to him.”
Police are appealing for anyone in the vicinity of Belivah Rd, Belivah and Beaudesert Beenleigh Rd in Bannockburn to come forward between 7am and 8.30am.
