Two critical after separate early-morning crashes on M1 corridor
A man is fighting for his life after crashing into a bridge in the early hours of the morning south of Brisbane.
Police believe a Toyota ute failed to clear the junction with Brigade Drive under the Pacific Highway at Eagleby in Logan and collided with the bollards at around 1am.
Minutes later, emergency teams were called and 8 medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
The 24-year-old male driver suffered head injuries and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.
His 23-year-old passenger was trapped in his legs and suffered limb, abdominal and head injuries. It was learned that the life of the person who was taken to the same hospital remained in danger.
The Forensic Accident Unit was sent to investigate the cause of the accident.
It was reported there were still delays at the roundabout at 9.30am on Saturday.
About two hours after the Eagleby crash, a brown Mazda CX7 collided head-on with a white Kia Sportage on the M1 at Yatala on the Gold Coast.
The 28-year-old driver of the Mazda was hospitalized in critical condition.
A section of the M1 North was temporarily closed, but traffic reopened at 9am.
