RD Ratna Raju, former principal of Andhra University, on Saturday discussed the interface of quantum theory between mind and brain, highlighting the potential for significant advancement in agriculture, medicine and metallurgy through innovative applications.
Speaking at the ‘Quantum Summit’ organized by former quantum physics students of Andhra University in Vijayawada to commemorate the birth anniversary of theoretical physicist Albert Einstein, Ph.D. physicist Prof. Ratna Raju. A graduate of the University of Michigan who has contributed greatly to quantum mechanics education and nuclear physics research, he praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s Quantum Valley initiative and noted its role in connecting quantum fundamentals to real-world impact.
Prof. Ratna Raju explained that the Quamtum Valley project is built on the basic principles of quantum physics such as superposition, entanglement and quantum interference, and that quantum computers enable information processing far beyond classical computers. Technologies such as IBM’s 156-qubit Heron processor use these principles to explore possibilities and solve complex problems in areas such as cryptography, optimization, and drug discovery.
He said the initiative backed by Mr. Naidu aims to create a complete quantum ecosystem in Amaravati, including hardware manufacturing, software development and large-scale skill training in quantum science. The project also includes quantum communication technologies based on the no-cloning theorem for ultra-secure networks.
“Overall, the vision is to use true, cutting-edge quantum science to position Andhra Pradesh as a global leader in quantum technology, similar to its previous foray in the IT sector,” he said.
AU alumni, including scientists from Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and other major organizations, Prof. Congratulating Ratna Raju, he stated that his textbook ‘Foundations of Quantum Mechanics’ is widely used in Indian universities due to its clear explanations and rigorous mathematical treatment.
The graduates demanded that the government allocate land to them for the development of quantum technologies. They proposed to organize an international symposium on Quantum Technologies in Visakhapatnam in August and invite Prime Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to be a part of the event.
Among those who attended the meeting was Prof, former Vice-Chancellor of Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) in Nellore district. V. Veeraiah, former Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) and AU Chancellor K. Samatha and former professors of AU V. Bhaskara Rao, M. Puranchandra Rao, K. Hanumantha Rao, DL Sastry and K. Chandra Mouli were present.
