B&M confirms all stores across England will close for 24 hours next month | UK | News

Discount retailer B&M has confirmed it will close hundreds of stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland next month to mark Easter Sunday. The chain will close most of its UK sites on Sunday, April 5, except for Scotland, where trading is expected to continue as normal. Branches in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be closed during Easter Sunday but will be open as normal for the remainder of the Bank Holiday weekend.

A spokesman confirmed that all B&M stores will operate as usual on Good Friday, April 3, and Easter Monday, April 6. In England and Wales, shops exceeding 280 square meters are legally required to close on Easter Monday and Christmas Day; This means retailers may change opening hours unpredictably or close completely during Bank Holidays.

The Sunday Trading Act 1994 limits the opening hours of major stores in England and Wales on two major holidays, but does not extend to Scotland.

Customers who are unsure whether their local B&M will be open can double-check using the store locator on the retailer’s website or the store locator on its mobile app.

Founded in 1978 and one of the UK’s leading discounters, B&M operates more than 700 stores across the country and employs more than 35,000 staff.

A B&M spokesman said: “England, Wales and Northern Ireland stores will be closed on Easter Sunday. Stores in Scotland will trade as normal and operate normal opening hours.”

Under the Trading Act, Tesco can continue to operate smaller Express stores on Easter Sunday, but shoppers have been urged to check the opening times of their local supermarket using the online store locator.
