Exiled Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi said on Saturday that he was ready to lead Iran’s transition “as soon as the Islamic Republic falls.”

As the war in Iran enters its third week, Pahlavi, son of the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, said he has been working in recent months to develop a transition plan to ensure the country does not experience a disruption in governance if the Iranian regime collapses.

Pahlavi said in a social media post that “talented individuals” have been identified inside and outside Iran to manage what he called the “transitional system.”

“The transitional system under my leadership will be ready to take over the governance of the country as soon as the Islamic Republic falls and to create order, security, freedom and the necessary conditions for the prosperity and development of Iran in the shortest possible time.” he said.

Pahlavi has been living in exile since the 1979 Islamic Revolution overthrew the Iranian monarchy and established the Islamic Republic.

In recent years he has sought to position himself as a unifying opposition figure, saying he would guide the transition of power in Iran from theocracy to democracy.

In his message to his “citizens”, Pahlavi said that his plan to govern the country would be realized within the framework of the “Iran Welfare Project”.

Appearing with Lara Trump on Fox News’ “My View” program last week, Pahlavi said the Iranian people will not accept any forward-looking outcome depending on the current regime.

“Only a clean break will ensure that we not only reach a democratic solution and alternative to this regime, but also people who are not directly associated with this regime in any way or form,” he said.

Pahlavi said that the Iranian people must decide the leadership of their country and that “only the ballot box should determine the outcome and who will be responsible for our country in the future.”

“I think we would expect any government, including the current Trump administration, to recognize that the best way to help the Iranian people is to allow them to make that choice freely and support that choice as a Western democracy, the leading democracy in the world,” he said.
