Ex-royal butler sets the record straight on royal protocol | Royal | News

Former royal butler Grant Harrold has set the record straight on how a female member of the Royal Family should be greeted. According to the official Royal Family website, there is “no mandatory code of conduct” when meeting the King, Queen or other members of the Firm.
speaking on behalf of CasinoHawksMr Harrold said: “According to royal etiquette, royal ladies always kiss each other on the cheek before curtsying.” He then decided to clear up any confusion, adding that some people wondered if they had forgotten to curtsy.
She added: “This is an interesting royal fact and it causes some confusion because people sometimes think they forget to curtsey – which is not the case.”
At the time of this writing, the late Queen Elizabeth II is still alive. The website, which appears to mention Elizabeth, notes that people often like to exchange traditional greetings.
He writes: “For men it is a bow (from the beginning only), while women make a small bow. Others prefer to just shake hands as usual.
“The correct official address when presenting to the Queen is ‘Your Majesty’ followed by ‘Ma’am’ pronounced with a short ‘a’ as in ‘Jam’.
“The same rules apply for male members of the Royal Family; the initial title used is ‘His Royal Highness’ followed by ‘Sir’.
“For other female members of the Royal Family, the first address is traditionally ‘Your Royal Highness’ followed by ‘Ma’am’.”
When addressing King Charles, people should use “Your Majesty” when first meeting, then use “Sir” on subsequent introductions.
