Kate Middleton says cancer diagnosis made her aware of alcohol intake: reports

Kate Middleton admitted this week that she rarely drinks alcohol after being diagnosed with cancer two years ago.
“I haven’t had a lot of alcohol since my diagnosis,” the Princess of Wales said when offered a pint at Fabal Beerhall while strolling London’s Bermondsey Beer Mile on Thursday, according to various outlets in the United Kingdom. “This is something I need to be much more conscious of now.”
The Princess asked owner Hannah Rhodes if the pub had non-alcoholic beer.
“I’m afraid we haven’t done that yet,” Rhodes told The Independent. reported. “I would love to do this one day, but we would need some technology to do it properly.”

The 44-year-old drank soda instead, but said: “You like cider” to Prince William, who toured the breweries with him. Sun.
“I’m a cider man,” admitted William, according to E-News. “I love cider. I grew up on cider in the West Country.”
“I haven’t drank much alcohol since I was diagnosed. I need to be much more conscious about this now.”
Middleton announced that she was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in 2024.

“I had major abdominal surgery in London in January, and at the time my condition was thought to be non-cancerous,” Middleton said in a video in March 2024, following speculation about her health. “The surgery was successful. However, cancer was detected in post-operative tests. Therefore, my medical team recommended me to receive preventive chemotherapy and I am currently in the early stages of this treatment.”
In January last year, the princess announced that her cancer was in remission after completing treatment in the fall of 2024.

Alcohol is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen, meaning it increases the risk of cancer.
“You can reduce your risk of cancer by drinking less alcohol or not at all,” the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says on its website. “All beverages containing alcohol, including red and white wine, beer and liquor, increase the risk of cancer.”

The CDC says many cancers are linked to alcohol consumption, including those of the mouth, throat, larynx, esophagus, colon and rectum, liver and breast.
“Some studies show that drinking three or more beverages containing alcohol per day increases the risk of stomach and pancreatic cancer,” the CDC adds. “Drinking alcohol can also increase the risk of prostate cancer. Any beverage containing alcohol increases the risk of cancer. Drinking less alcohol is better for your health than drinking more.”

The royal couple shared a video montage of their day at various breweries on their official Instagram account.
