What to expect around Petersburg as Virginia faces severe storms

Spring is making a great entrance.
After a week of record-high temperatures, a major winter storm impacting the Plains and Midwest and felt far from the center of the storm is expected to arrive Sunday night, March 15, and Monday, especially for parts of the Mid-Atlantic states and the southeast, including Petersburg and the Tri-Cities area.
According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, heavy showers are expected to come with flash floods on Monday. NOAA said Sunday that tornadoes, with potentially strong and particularly damaging winds, will likely move from South Carolina to Maryland in the afternoon.

“While damaging straight-line winds are the most likely severe weather hazard, a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out, including the possibility of a particularly intense tornado, especially near Baltimore and Washington D.C., from metro areas stretching from Virginia to North Carolina,” AccuWeather chief meteorologist Jonathan Porter said.
