Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers declares state of emergency amid historic winter storm

Governor Tony Evers declared a state of emergency in Wisconsin on Saturday, March 14, amid a potential record-breaking winter storm that dumped as much as 27 inches of snow in some parts of the state.

Evers issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency around 6:45 p.m. on March 14. order It directs all state agencies, including the Wisconsin National Guard, to “assist in response and recovery efforts as appropriate.”

StormThe outbreak, which began on March 14 and is expected to last through Monday, March 16, has already caused widespread power outages, shutdowns, and hazardous road conditions across Wisconsin. Snowstorm warnings remain in effect in the northern half of the state.

Up to 30 inches of additional snow is possible in some areas. Wind, Barron, Rusk, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce and St. Speeds can reach 50 miles per hour in some places, including St. Croix counties.

By declaring an emergency, agencies, local partners, utilities and emergency management officials can respond to damage caused by the storm.

According to the governor’s statement, emergency notifications are made in line with damage assessments and requests from local partners.
