Spurs respond to Tudor’s defiant call with deserved Anfield draw

Spurs had shown this new spirit even before Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick strike in the 18th minute; It was a good shot, but one that the badly positioned Guglielmo Vicario should have kept out, with the hapless Kinsky returning goal.
In Vicario’s defence, he then made a spectacular save by turning Cody Gakpo’s shot onto the post. The moment kept Spurs in the game when Liverpool’s second goal could have killed them.
Richarlison, the villain of the pantomime, had the last word as he answered the Tudor call to war above all else.
He still retains hero status at Everton for his brilliant performances and efforts as they almost retain their Premier League status in 2021-22.
Spurs will need him to do the same now as he has shown here how vital it is to be alongside the tireless Dominic Solanke.
Richarlison’s goal took him to 100 goal contributions in the Premier League (73 goals, 27 assists). Roberto Firmino (132) and Gabriel Jesus (118) were the other Brazilians to reach this milestone.
As for Liverpool, this result was little consolation as they missed the chance to finish in the top four of the Premier League by feeling the full ire of their fans in the final.
The magnificent performance of 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who was selected ahead of Mohamed Salah, sparkled. Unlike the Egyptian player who couldn’t do anything right when he entered the game in the 64th minute, he received a standing ovation when he entered the game.
As for Spurs, time will tell whether this excellent display will be the exception rather than the rule – but for the first time in a long time, there has been light at the end of the darkest tunnels.
