Fire in Cuttack’s SCB hospital ICU leaves at least 10 patients dead

At least 10 patients are feared dead after a fire broke out in the intensive care unit of SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack in the early hours of Monday, March 16, 2026.

Five other patients are fighting for their lives at Odisha’s premier health institute. Some patients were rescued and transported to the New Medical Building on the same campus.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi arrived at SCB Medical College Hospital to assess the situation.

The Odisha government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the faults that led to the fire.
