US makes history with fifth straight Paralympic sled hockey title

The United States defeated Canada once again on Olympic ice, this time to win the gold medal at the Paralympic Games.
Following a 6-2 victory over Canada on Sunday, the United States took home the gold medal in men’s Paralympic sled hockey.
Thus, they became the first country to win five consecutive Paralympic titles. They also became the first to cover all three Paralympic and Olympic hockey events in a single tournament.

Of course, the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams also won gold medals in overtime in both gold medal games at the Milan Cortina Games last month.
But this clash between sports rivals needed no extra time as the USA saw Jack Wallace score a hat-trick and an assist to help the Stars and Stripes’ cause against Canada.
“This team is very special,” Wallace, who is completing his third Paralympic Games, told NBC after the win. “We love each other. This team did it, a tough game. It was incredible. I love these guys.”

Aside from Wallace’s goals, Kayden Beasley, Declan Farmer and Brody Roybal found the back of the net.
Only Canadian Liam Hickey could score, scoring two goals that were ultimately not enough.

Although hockey has generally been a sport dominated by Canadians, the Paralympics have long seen Team USA in that position. And they showed why throughout the tournament, beating Italy, Germany, China and the Czech Republic before facing Canada in the gold medal match.
Canada is also one of the best teams in the world; He has seen the USA in three consecutive Paralympic gold medal matches and eight straight world championship finals.
But it was the United States that broke through at the Olympics, and they continued that trend on Sunday, capping off an exciting time for everyone back home watching the red, white and blue on the ice.

As the Paralympics come to an end, Team USA’s gold medal was their 13th since the event began on March 6. The USA completed the race with a total of 24 medals, five silver and six bronze.
China eventually emerged as the medal leaders, placing 44th with 15 golds in the bank.
