Astron at Quinns Rocks runs out of unleaded petrol after customer fills jerry cans with $500 worth of fuel

A gas store clerk said stricter fuel limits were needed after a customer filled jerry cans with hundreds of dollars’ worth of gasoline and evacuated the service station.
Astron in Quinns Rocks ran out of unleaded fuel on Monday morning and had to turn customers away.
According to store clerk Aslam Tamin, the gas station sold more than $200,000 worth of gasoline last week; this was four times the average following the sudden panic among buyers.
Mr Tamin said after having to close the station: “I think some people are panicking, some people actually need fuel, because this morning I saw one person buying about $500 worth of fuel in jerrycans.”
“Just out of curiosity, I asked him why, and he said maybe fuel prices would increase even more.
“I think we should put limits on fuel because everyone should be able to buy it.”
Mr Tamin said suppliers usually deliver fuel to the station once a week on a Wednesday, but since the rush, deliveries have been increased to two or three days.
Asked if he expected new intensity after the next delivery, Mr Tamin said: “I think yes.”
