Tripura FM unveils Rs 34,212 crore tax-free budget for FY 2026–27

The budget reflects an increase of 5.52 per cent over the 2025-26 budget estimates.
The Finance Minister said that during 2026-27, the state government will provide a total of 914.82 billion rupees to the politically important Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), an increase of 6.34 per cent.
Critical elections for the 30-member TTAADC are planned to be held in April.
In his nearly two-hour-long budget speech, Roy said, “The state government continues to move forward on the path of progress. Strengthening infrastructure, encouraging investment, creating employment and developing healthcare and tourism sectors are among the proactive measures taken to ensure all-round socio-economic development of the people of the state.”
The budget also introduced “NAVCHETNA”, a new initiative aimed at promoting technology-focused education through Innovation and Technology Labs in institutions.
The program will focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), coding and automation. The Finance Minister also announced the launch of ‘Mukhyamantri Antarjatik Kormosangstan Prokolpa’ to facilitate overseas employment opportunities for nursing, ITI, diploma and postgraduate students. Drone School will be established to provide vocational training to drone pilots with SHGM-approved licenses.
Additionally, a Foreign Language School will be established in Agartala in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission.
To combat HIV/AIDS, 11 additional Targeted Intervention programs, Link Workers, and NGOs have been identified to provide prevention and treatment services to high-risk populations. Six mobile vans are currently operating to conduct HIV diagnostic tests in hard-to-reach areas.
Under ‘Mission Shakti’, women affected by violence are provided with integrated support and assistance, including medical and legal assistance, temporary shelter with food and psychosocial counselling.
Roy informed the House that One Stop Centers (OSCs) are now operational in all eight districts of Tripura, while the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has approved two additional OSCs.
