District Records More Than 20.27 Crore Digital Transactions

– KURNOOL: Despite being largely rural and dependent on agriculture, the newly formed Nandyal district has been a success in digital financial transactions, recording cashless payments worth Rs 1.09 lakh crore in just nine months.
According to banking officials, the district recorded more than 20.27 crore digital transactions between April 1 and December 31, 2025, with the total value reaching Rs 1.09 lakh crore. The figures reflect the rapid adoption of digital payment systems not only in urban areas but also in villages.
The increase in digital transactions is particularly important for a region where agriculture is the main source of income and accounts for a large share of the rural population, officials said. Despite these factors, Nandyal is a strong performer in the state in terms of digital payments adoption.
The banking activities of the region are coordinated by Union Bank of India, which acts as the leading bank of Nandyal. Over the past few years, the expansion of banking infrastructure and the growth of digital payment platforms have significantly contributed to the increase in electronic transactions.
There are currently 56 primary agricultural cooperatives in the region that provide loans and financial services to farmers. Additionally, 1,786 business correspondents operate in rural areas, providing doorstep banking services to villagers. The district also has 260 ATMs providing easy access to cash and banking services.
Among various digital payment platforms, BHIM/UPI transactions dominate the digital ecosystem in the region. More than 20 crore transactions have been processed through the UPI platform alone, officials said, highlighting the growing use of mobile-based payment apps for daily financial activities.
Banking officials attribute the rise in digital payments to improved internet connectivity, increasing smartphone penetration and sustainable digital literacy initiatives. Small traders, artisans and rural households are increasingly adopting digital payment methods such as QR code-based transactions and Aadhaar-enabled payment services.
The steady growth in digital transactions reflects the success of financial inclusion initiatives and the government’s drive towards a less cash economy, officials said. With ongoing awareness campaigns and technological advances, digital payment volumes in the region are expected to increase further in the coming years.
