Althea by Zin, Mudgee – SMH Good Food app review
As you might guess, the kiwi cake at Althea by Zin does not contain kiwi. It’s actually bacon and egg pie, a popular breakfast dish in New Zealand. Owner-chef Kim Currie crossed the ditch in 1982, opening Zin Food + Wine House (formerly The Zin House) in 2014, followed by Althea by Zin bakery in 2021.
The bakery produces a variety of breads, from spelled and mixed grain sourdough to focaccia, but it’s the golden, ridged baguettes that the team are particularly proud of. The Danes are filled with figs, apricots and quinces grown on the 1,000-acre organic and biodynamic Tinja Farm, while own pasture-raised beef and lamb are used to fill the pies.
