Tamil Nadu Weather Today
According to the weather department, several lower-level atmospheric circulations are currently active in the area.

One of the circulations extends over the southeastern Arabian Sea and the adjacent Lakshadweep region. Another extends from the southwestern Bay of Bengal near the coast of northern Sri Lanka to the Kanyakumari maritime region.
There is also a separate lower-level circulation on the northern coast of Tamil Nadu. These systems together are expected to trigger rain in isolated parts of the state.
Rain warning in Tamil Nadu
Due to these conditions, areas along the Western Ghats and parts of southern Tamil Nadu may receive light to moderate rain along with thunder and lightning today.
Rain is expected to continue in the coming days. Moderate rain is expected in delta districts and surrounding areas on Wednesday. Similar conditions are expected to continue through Thursday; Moderate rainfall is expected in parts of the delta region and southern Tamil Nadu.
Storms can be seen especially in Nilgiris district. However, many other areas in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are expected to remain mostly dry throughout the day.
Rain may be seen in Delta districts in the coming days
Weather activity may gradually shift to other regions over the next few days.
The weather center stated that moderate rain, thunder and lightning may be seen in the delta regions and nearby areas on March 18. Some isolated places in the rest of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may also experience light rain during this period.
Rain may be seen again in parts of the delta regions and southern Tamil Nadu by March 19, while light intermittent showers may be seen in other areas.
Temperature trend across Tamil Nadu
Although rain is expected in some districts, temperatures across the state remain close to seasonal levels.
Maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on March 16 and March 17 may remain around 2°C above normal at some places.
From March 18 to March 20, temperatures may gradually drop by up to 2°C in isolated areas, potentially falling 1-2°C below normal levels.
During this period, minimum temperatures are expected to remain largely stable with only slight changes.
Weather in Chennai today
Skies in Chennai and nearby suburbs are expected to remain partly cloudy for the next two days.
Daytime temperatures can reach around 33-34°C, while night temperatures can remain around 24-25°C. There may be occasional cloudiness in the city, but heavy rainfall is not expected immediately.
No warning to fishermen
The meteorological ministry also said no major warnings had been issued for fishermen.
March 16-20: No warning for coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.
This means fishermen operating in the coastal waters of Tamil Nadu, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea will not face any special weather alerts during this period.
