Former MLB player convicted of murder in California home invasion
A former Major League baseball jug was found guilty of killing his father -in -law in what prosecutors call it a financially motivated attack.
51 -year -old Daniel Serafini was sentenced to first -degree murder in the death of 70 Robert Gary Spohr in 2021 on Monday.

Prosecutors said Serafini secretly waiting in the house with a .22 calibric weapon for three hours before attacking. During the shooting, two young children were at home for 8 months.
Wood survived the first attack, but later died in suicide in 2023, and his family said it caused death trauma.

Serafini’s baseball career involved in the first round by Minnesota Twins in 1992 and playing for six different teams. His career ended in 2007. In the same year, he was suspended for 50 games to use performance enhancing drugs.
Samantha Scott, a second defendant defined as a close friend of both Serafini’s wife and lover, was found guilty of being an accessory in February 2025.

Serafini will remain in custody without bail until the penalty planned on 18 August. He may encounter life in prison.
