Two Arrested for Harassing Actress Renu Desai
Hyderabad: Cyberbad cyber crime police arrested two persons for allegedly targeting actress and film producer Renu Desai with obscene and abusive comments on social media.
The arrests followed Desai’s complaint that the four accounts subjected him to constant harassment, used vulgar language and spread false propaganda. He stated that the abuse intensified after he spoke publicly on social issues, including his views on stray dogs.
Investigators used digital forensics to identify and detain two suspects, while efforts to track down other suspects are ongoing.
A case has been registered under the IT Act and the police have warned that online anonymity does not protect against legal consequences, especially in cases involving harassment of women and public figures.
The action came shortly after Desai posted a video warning of taking legal action against trolls. She has repeatedly faced online harassment since her divorce from actor Pawan Kalyan. This crackdown reflects Telangana’s zero-tolerance approach to cyberbullying; Similar arrests have been made in cases involving other celebrities such as television presenter Anasuya.
