According to information obtained under the RTI Act, more than 22 million unemployed youth are currently registered with employment agencies in Rajasthan.

It was also revealed that no candidate had been hired through employment agencies in the public sector in the last five years.

Data provided by the Labor Department shows that as of January 14, a total of 22,21,317 candidates were registered as job seekers in district employment offices across the state. Of these, over 13.08 lakh were men, 9.12 lakh were women and 989 fell under the ‘other’ category.

Among the districts, the highest number of registered unemployed people was recorded in Jaipur at 2.51 lakh, followed by Alwar (1.53 lakh), Nagaur (1.34 lakh), Jhunjhunu (1.22 lakh) and Jodhpur (86,320). In contrast, Jaisalmer (12,031) and Pratapgarh (14,047) reported the lowest number of registered candidates.

Category-wise data shows that candidates from Other Backward Classes (OBC) constitute the largest share among registered job seekers, followed by general, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and other categories.

Placements in private and public sectors

The data also revealed limited placements in the private sector in the last five years. According to the information provided, 86 candidates were placed in 2021, 825 in 2022, three in 2023, 23 in 2024 and 71 in 2025 through employment office initiatives, including job fairs and coordination with private companies.

Right to Information (RTI) candidate Chandra Shekhar Gaur said, “The private sector has seen high growth in the last two decades. Investment in billions, but jobs provided by the directorate are very few. In the government sector, permanent and temporary jobs through the directorate seem to have come to a complete standstill. Employment agencies need to be activated and candidates are directed.” he said.

The RTI application also sought details of employment created through investor summits held in the state in the last two years. However, the ministry announced that this information was not related to itself.

He also responded to a question about employment agencies not providing jobs in the government sector in the last five years.

A senior official of the Employment Department said that the ministry publishes ‘Rojgar Sandesh’ on a fortnightly basis to keep job seekers informed about various government vacancies.

He said that various events such as fairs are also organized from time to time.

The official website of the Ministry of Skills, Employment and Entrepreneurship in Rajasthan states that the Ministry of Labor caters to the needs of job seekers through various activities and programmes. The ‘Department of Skills, Development and Entrepreneurship’ was established in May 2015 for better coordination and rapid execution of programs.

Providing vocational guidance to job seekers on various courses and training opportunities, presenting the job seeker list to employers, registering unemployed youth, organizing Rozgar Melas, and assisting job seekers in the weaker sections of society within the scope of special programs are among the duties of the department.
