Farm unions seek withdrawal of police cases on leaders

Representatives of All India Khet Mazdoor Kisan Sabha (AIKMKS) and Rythu Coolie Sangham of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday asked the government to cancel police cases filed against AIKMKS national convener Simhadri Jhansi, Rythu Coolie Sangham State secretary Dantuluri Varma and other leaders for holding a public meeting and rally in Parvatipuram on March 11 without prior permission from the police department.
In a press release on Tuesday, leaders V. Mutyalu, Bhaskara Rao and others said they had taken prior permission and it was not appropriate for the police department to file a case against the leaders who held the meeting peacefully. They said that the police department provided adequate police security for the meeting, and now they claim that the meeting was held despite the restrictions on rallies and gatherings in the district center and other parts of the district.
