Cleveland meteor LIVE: Ohio rocked by loud boom today as Pennsylvania | World | News

A massive explosion was felt in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania after a meteor was spotted over Cleveland. 911 was flooded with reports of an “earthquake-like explosion.” The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh confirmed that it had received reports of a “loud explosion and fireball in the sky” based on satellite data and believed it was likely a meteor entering the atmosphere.

According to NWS meteorologist Brian Mitchell, the meteor must have burned up in the atmosphere before hitting the ground because there was no sign of anything hitting the ground. The National Weather Service Pittburgh posted images of the bright fire on its official X account Tuesday afternoon. The service later confirmed that a device called the Geostationary Lightning Mapper determined that what caused the sound was a meteor.
