PG Accommodation Get 500 Cylinders A Day In Bengaluru

BENGALUR: Paying guest accommodations, which are struggling to cope with the situation due to shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, received a positive response from Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister KH Muniyappa on Tuesday; The minister considered the payment of guest stays in Bengaluru as essential services and agreed to ensure payment for the supply of around 500 commercial LPG cylinders per day to guest stays.
Paying guest owners have asked the Minister to consider their requests for paying guest accommodations to be labeled as essential services and to ensure an adequate supply of commercial gas cylinders. However, the Minister asked the paying Guest Accommodation Federation to decide among themselves on the distribution of cylinders, as there are a limited number of cylinders available on a daily basis.
In Bengaluru, an estimated 10 lakh people, including working men and women, stay in various paid accommodation across the city, with a large concentration in Mahadevapura, Bellandur, Ashwathnagar White Field and surrounding areas. There are approximately 15,000 paying guest accommodations in total.
PG Owners Welfare Association president DT Arunkumar told Deccan Chronicle: “We demanded 1,000 commercial LPG cylinders per day but the Minister approved it to 500 per day. We are happy with the decision.”
“A 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder will help run a paid accommodation with limited number of people for about a week,” said Arun Kumar. “Despite the supply of commercial gas cylinders, PG will continue to operate accommodation units that cook food twice a day instead of 3 times during the supply of normal LPG cylinders.”
Arunkumar said that on distribution of existing commercial LPG cylinders to various paying accommodation establishments, a meeting will be held to discuss how to distribute commercial LPG cylinders among PG accommodations.
“Distributions of 500 LPG cylinders a day would be done on a rotational basis,” he said and stated “The Minister asked officials concerned to process to distribute commercial gas cylinders and PG accommodations will be able to get LPG cylinders in a couple of days.”
