BJP-NCP candidates secure top posts in Latur Zilla Parishad

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) came together to form the government in Latur Zilla Parishad in Maharshtra and Usha Sambhaji Patil-Talegaonkar of the BJP was elected president. NCP’s Dayanand Damodar Surwase was sworn in as vice president.

Latur Additional District Collector Shilpa Karmarkar chaired the election for the top post in which Ms. Patil-Talegaonkar and Mr. Surwase both secured 34 votes. According to officials, Congress candidates Deepali Bhosale and Nageshwari Kendre lost by 25 votes each.

To win the presidential position, political parties had to exceed the 30-member limit on the 59-member board. Zilla Parishad elections were held on February 7 and the appointment of the president was completed on March 16.

According to officials, four candidates from Mahayuti and three from Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) have been nominated for the chairman’s post.

While Dayanand Damodar Suravase was nominated for the post of Vice President of Mahayuti, Nageshwari Sachin Kendra, Ashwini Shinde and Mukesh Bhalerao were the candidates of MVA.

Ushabai Sambhaji Patil Talegaonkar, the fourth woman president of Latur Zilla Parishad, is a resident of Talgeva in Deoni taluka and daughter of Sahakar Maharshi Late Ramchandrarao Patil Talegaonkar.

Dayanand Suravase is a resident of Jhari Navkund in Chakur taluka and was elected from the Janval Zilla Parishad group (Nationalist Ajit Pawar group).
