Tamil Nadu Politicians Drag in Rajinikanth, Nayan, and Trisha, Receive Flak

In what many call an extremely unfortunate trend, political discourse in Tamil Nadu is increasingly veering towards controversial comments targeting film personalities, including top actresses and veteran star Rajinikanth.
The latest controversy is about AIADMK MP Shanmugam, who made an objectionable statement about actress Nayanthara. Reacting to Prime Minister MK Stalin’s public outreach initiative exploring people’s aspirations, Shanmugam was quoted as saying, “I want Nayanthara, will you fulfill my dream?” He reportedly said.
The comment triggered widespread backlash, with many denouncing it as inappropriate and disrespectful, especially coming from an elected representative. The National Commission for Women has reportedly taken serious notice of the issue.
This is not an isolated incident. Recently, Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran faced criticism for his remarks regarding actress Trisha Krishnan while referring to actor-turned-politician Vijay. He had controversially suggested that Vijay should “come out of Trisha’s house” to understand the ground realities in the state, which was widely condemned as inappropriate.
Meanwhile, TVK leader Adhav Arjuna’s statements about Rajinikanth further increased the tension. Arjuna claimed that the superstar had stayed away from politics due to pressure from the DMK’s first family, a claim that sparked harsh reactions from political and fan circles.
Responding to the controversy, Rajinikanth rejected these statements as “not true” and thanked different party leaders for their support. “Time doesn’t talk, it waits and responds,” he said in a brief statement.
These words sparked heated debate; While fans of the superstar expressed their anger on social media, political leaders in the parties also weighed in on the issue.
Overall, the events have raised concerns about the tone of political discourse in Tamil Nadu, particularly the repeated targeting of women and film characters in public statements.
