Mizu restaurant to close in Teneriffe
You only have 10 days for one last visit; Of course, if you can find a table.
Popular Japanese restaurant Mizu will close at the end of the month. The Teneriffe institution announced the news on social media on Tuesday.
Mizu’s owner, Michiko Marunishi, said in her post, “After long consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our store,” and announced that the last day of trading will be Saturday, March 28.
“Until then, we will continue to operate our normal business hours and look forward to welcoming you.
“We would like to express our sincerest thanks for your support and kindness over the years. It has truly been a pleasure serving you and we hope to see you before our last day.”
Mizu opened in 2005 and quickly became a local favorite thanks to its then-distinctive simple, generous middle-market approach to Japanese cuisine.

In its early days, it served a popular weekend breakfast, but later became known for its lunch and dinner menu, which featured perennial dishes like fried octopus dumplings, grilled miso-marinated black cod, and sand crab and soba salad.
It also hosted regular cooking classes, sake appreciation nights and origami classes, and was one of the first Brisbane porters to allow guests to keep a bottle of alcohol (in this case sake) in the restaurant for long periods of time.
Current owner Michiko Marunishi took over Mizu five years ago; he was previously co-owner of popular Racecourse Road restaurant Hosakawa.
When contacted by this masthead on Wednesday, Marunishi said the closure was for personal reasons and declined to comment further except to reiterate his gratitude to the restaurant’s longtime customers.
“I want to thank you for supporting us for over five years,” he said.
Marunishi said the restaurant is almost fully booked from now until its last service on March 28.
