Housing Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan said he has urged the Prime Minister to sanction ₹ 260 crore for adoption and development of 50 slums as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karnataka Slum Development Board.
Replying to Congress member K. Govindaraj in the Legislative Council on Wednesday, March 18, the Minister said that the Prime Minister had assured that funds would be provided from the supplementary budget.
Mr. Ahmed said he has also reached out to companies like Wipro and Infosys to mobilize Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for the development of slum areas.
He said 3,325 slums were identified across the state and 2,866 of them were officially notified. Currently, only ₹50 crore has been allocated for their development and provision of basic infrastructure, which is inadequate, he said.
“In view of this, a proposal has been submitted to increase the allocation to at least Rs 500 crore,” he said.
The estimated cost of work to provide basic amenities in 794 slums in 1,210 slums over the last seven years is ₹408.28 crore, the minister added.
