NYPD officer working security for mayor suspended after shooting man while off duty: cops

The New York City Police Department officer in charge of security at Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s residence and City Hall has been suspended after authorities say he shot a man in the head while off-duty.
According to the NYPD, the attack occurred around 9 p.m. Monday evening in the Bronx after the officer interacted with several men regarding a stolen car.
The officer, whose identity was not publicly released, had not been arrested or charged with a crime as of Thursday morning, police said. He was suspended without pay.

A spokesperson for the NYPD told The Associated Press that the department’s Force Investigations Division is investigating the attack.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the NYPD.
The victim, identified only as a 30-year-old man, was in critical condition, authorities said.

Mamdani’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
The city’s official mayoral residence is a stately home known as the Gracie Mansion, located in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan.
The manager of the bar across the street where the conflict took place said that one of the windows of the business was shot and broken.

No one in the workplace was harmed in the conflict.
“Imagine if someone was sitting in that window at that time,” Ada Gomez, the bar’s manager, told the Associated Press.
