Odisha Tourism Gets Guinness World Record For largest Serving Of ‘Pakhala’

Bhubaneswar: The state Tourism department has set a Guinness World Record for the largest serving of ‘Pakhala’ (fermented rice) of 1,174 kg prepared and served in a single bowl, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Friday. This remarkable feat was achieved on the day the state observed ‘Pakhala Divas’.

“Odisha achieved a remarkable global milestone on the occasion of Pakhala Divas with Odisha Tourism breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest serving of pakhala,” Majhi said in a post on X.

“This historic achievement of preparing and serving an unprecedented 1,174 kg in a single bowl brings global recognition to pakhala, one of the most loved traditional dishes of Odisha and deeply ingrained in our culture and daily life.” he said.

The Prime Minister also said that this achievement reflects the state’s commitment to promote Odisha’s rich culinary heritage on the global stage.

“This is a proud moment for every Odia as we take our ancient traditions from local to global and further strengthen Odisha’s identity as a center of cultural and gastronomic excellence,” the CM said.

He also published the picture of the certificate issued by Guinness World Records in his social media post.

Pakhala is made by fermenting or soaking cooked rice in water.
