Thanks to a Montreal broker

A former Montreal resident accused of being involved in drug trafficking with former Olympic athlete Ryan Wedding has just sold his Florida residence, a sumptuous mansion that once belonged to internationally renowned producer DJ Khaled.

Canadian and American authorities have often highlighted the considerable wealth of the organization of Ryan Wedding, the former member of the Canadian Olympic snowboard team accused of having become the main exporter of cocaine to Canada. But a large part of this wealth is hidden, attributed to nominees, scattered in cryptocurrency portfolios and other invisible assets.

The luxury Miami property is a rare concrete example of the standard of living and considerable means available to the alleged members of Wedding’s organization.

It was a Montreal real estate broker, Garry Malakhanian, of the KW Prestige agency, who acted as a consultant and organized the sale of the property for the sum of 10 million US dollars.

“It was a very difficult sell. I haven’t posted it on the market. I worked with my network and my contacts, and I found a buyer,” Mr. Malakhanian confirmed to The Press Friday evening.

The property was formerly owned by DJ Khaled, known for his collaborations with stars like Kanye West, Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj. In 2020, the artist sold the waterfront mansion to Montrealer Nahim Jorge Bonilla, who left Quebec after a shooting in front of a house that belonged to his mother, in Saint-Eustache.

In 2024, Nahim Jorge Bonilla was arrested in a dramatic FBI raid and accused of participating in the drug trafficking activities of Ryan Wedding’s organization.

Bonilla remains detained in the United States awaiting trial and has been forced to sell his property.

“I received it through a mutual friend. They told me: ‘There’s a house in Miami, you have to help us sell it,’” says real estate agent Garry Malakhanian.

The furniture in the house was custom-made for DJ Khaled. The chandeliers alone were valued at US$1.2 million.

“It’s an iconic house, you can still see a lot of DJ Khaled’s old possessions there; this increases its value. Then there is this criminal procedure against the last owner, which could scare some people. But the buyer doesn’t worry about that,” says Mr. Malakhanian.

The real estate agent says he found an investor in New York who agreed to buy the property for 10 million. He prefers not to reveal his name for the moment.

DJ Khaled carried out major renovations to the property a few years ago, adding a home theater and a full room to hold his sneakers.

“With a little additional renovation, the property could surely sell for 16 or 17 million,” believes Mr. Malakhanian.
