Park Police officer shot in DC as authorities shut down multiple blocks

A U.S. Park Police officer was shot in Southeast Washington, D.C., the DC Police Association confirmed Monday.

“We can confirm that a U.S. Park Police member was shot in the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place SE,” the union said in X. “We are all praying for the officer and @1791FOP right now.”

U.S. Park Police also confirmed the officer was shot, adding that the injured officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Park police also said the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Metropolitan Police Department for additional information.

While police responded to the incident, authorities closed several blocks in the area, restricting both vehicle and pedestrian access, FOX 5 in DC reported.

The closures include areas along Benning Road SE as well as nearby residential streets, including the 5000 to 5100 blocks of Queens Stroll Place SE and the 4600 block of Hillside Road SE.

Authorities state that no vehicle or pedestrian traffic is allowed in the affected areas and urge the public to stay away from the area and follow police instructions. Closings are subject to change.

The station also reported that a heavy law enforcement presence remains as investigators work to determine what led to the shooting.

FBI Director Kash Patel wrote in X that he was praying for the injured officer.

“We pray for the Park Police officer shot in Washington, D.C. The FBI, along with our law enforcement partners, are actively supporting the investigation and will bring those responsible to justice,” Patel wrote.
